December 9, 2014.
The “Innovation TechnologiesPark” (Tech Garden) innovation clusterhas been established in Almaty at the territory of Kazakhstan National University named after al-Farabi. Kcell became the Partner of “Tech Garden” Festival.
“Tech Garden” is birth of the “Kazakhstan Silicon Valley” in Almaty city. The new cluster is created in order to develop the scientific-technological potential and to consolidate the demand, as well as to increase the competitive capability of the Kazakhstan industry. The independent cluster fund is designed to be a core of the cluster to ensure fulfillment of the objectives of the Innovation Technologies Park.
TeliaSonera, the main shareholder of “Kcell” JSC, went into the board of trustees of «Tech Garden» innovation cluster. Commenting on this, Head of TeliaSonera Eurasia Mr. Eric Hallberg said: «I was very pleased to take part in «Tech Garden» festival at the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi. I learned a lot about the focus of the country in the direction of further innovative development, as well as how important it is for the country to use innovation to improve the country's competitiveness and for the development of new industries. The government of the country has a great desire to be a part of this process, supporting and developing it. This is a very positive thing. It was very interesting for me to hear different case studies on innovative activities in Kazakhstan. This approach is really in demand in country wide. This means that entrepreneurs, government and industry leaders will work together to really create something new. Of course a few things probably will not fly, and few things will fly all the way up to the moment. And this is what innovation is about. This is a dare to do new things. To really dare. And Kcell is ready to become part of this process. The main thing is to provide equal opportunities in this market to contribute into the country innovative development. We hope that we will be able to find a balance, and then by combining the experience and knowledge of TeliaSonera and Kcell, we can make an even greater contribution to the future prosperity of Kazakhstan».
“Tech Garden” Festival became the first and most important event in Kazakhstan devoted to innovations. The annual festival joined the representatives of national companies, transnational corporations, successful Kazakhstan startups – creators of new technologies, authors of R&D projects from leading education institutes from all the key industries, mentors, experts and business-angels, representatives of venture funds, mass media, state authorities and national development institutes.
The event has covered speeches of the world-famous entrepreneurs and experts, show case technologies, work-shops and master-classes. The culmination of the festival became a competition of startup-projects in 4 lines: smart environment, smart industry, clean and healthy city, e-commerce and media.
